IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DUMPING IN STORM DRAINS OR OPEN DITCHES, PLEASE CALL SCOTT CITY HALL AT 233-1130 Many people believe that they can dump motor oil, cooking oil, household cleaners, paints, antifreeze, pesticides and other wastes into their storm drain or open ditch nearby and these wastes will be carried off when it rains and no harm is done. WRONG, WRONG- any wastes dumped in the storm drains or open ditches eventually ends up in the Vermilion River. In addition to polutting the Vermilion River , it also pollutes the canals, coulees, bayous, etc. that dumps in the Vermilion River. This dumping can cause the fish to die, but also very important, it can become a safety problem. Closer to home- If there are leaks in any sewer pipe that the polluted wastes can go in , it will go to the lift station, then the plant. This causes more breakdowns at both the lift station and the plant. It is very costly. More Expense causes the sewer rates to go up.
