SCOTT CITY HALL
Start Date: Fall 1991 Completion Date: Summer 1993
Construction Cost of Building: $1,200,000
Total Square Footage 8,000 sf
The municipal complex located in the heart of the growing historic
City of Scott, Louisiana, was designed fo serve the community as the
central location for City as well as some Parish services. The City
Hall was designed with the past in mind. The City of Scott was actually
developed based upon the extension of the main line of the railroad
through the community in the late 1800's. The City of Scott florished,
in large, as result of the railroad. The client wanted a building that
would recognize and reflect upon this very important community influence.

When the building committee met with the Architects selected for the
Project it was determined that the historical significance was too great
a heritage to not consider in the development of the new facility. The
Lafayette firm of Architects Southwest, along with the building committee,
researched several facilities for unique historical elements. Drawing
not only from examples of historic buildings still remaining in the area,
but also from classic Victorian details such as the clock tower and
gable roofs, this completely modern structure conveys the craftsmanship
and grace of this nostalgic era and exemplifies what would be truly
prestigious railroad depot on the mail line of this historical city.
Floyd Sonnier Beau Cajun Art Gallery - 1010 St. Mary St; Scott
(237-7104) Cajun artist, Floyd Sonnier's contribution to the preservation
of the Cajun Culture is tremendous. His pen & ink drawings of Acadiana
in the first half of the twentieth century depicted how proud he was
of his French-Acadian heritage. He was a wonderful goodwill ambassador
for South Louisiana during his international travels. His untimely
death in April 2002 left a book called "From Small Bits of Charcoal"
unpublished, but finished. It is a bilingual book containing his life's
story and a selection of his best art. His wife Verlie, is keeping
the gallery open. There you will find many of his fine works of art,
not only in pictures, but on calendars, Christmas cards, etc.
